sarah avilés

Sarah Avilés is a neurodivergent Chicana writer, director, and comedian from Los Angeles who creates character-driven, absurdist dark comedies inspired by her kooky upbringing and fascination with fringe communities.
She co-created and developed a mystery-comedy scripted podcast with Sonoro Media, was a Foundation House Artist in Residence, and a finalist in the Ojalá Ignition Lab in partnership with Universal Content Productions. Her writing has earned her scholarships to Inner-City Filmmakers and Regent’s University London. Sarah is also a member of the Chicana Directors Initiative and has been on the film programming teams for SXSW, HollyShorts, and AFI.
Her work often focuses on complex BIPOC characters trying to get their shit together, power struggles, and taboo subjects. Sarah collaborates frequently with Angel I. Salinas.
